why does my ps3 download so slow

I got a PS3 and a 360. we got SOCOM: Confrontation the other day and I couldn't download the update while I was on a wireless connection. I called Sony and told them what was up and after they walked me through restoring my default settings (which I knew wasn't gonna work) they gave me a list of ports to open on my wireless router. ofcourse I was on hold forever and then put on hold again after the first thing didn't solve my problem. I wasn't about to screw with the ports in my router. especially when the computer works fine, the laptop works fine, and the 360 works fine. all at the same time even. But seriously. I plug the wireless adapter into the XBOX, scan for the network, pop in the password, and we're up and gaming no problem. I just don't understand why the PS3 can't be the same way. Eventually I ditched the router completely and ran the internet straight from the modem to the PS3, got the update, and switched back over to wireless to play the damn game. funny thing is that tech support suggested I do that. but I feel after shelling out the $400 for the system that I shouldn't have to go through all that.

Just open the ports and DMZ for the PS3. Also make sure the IP's modem is not working as a router along with your router (I found my modem was set as a router and to be changed to a bridge connection). I did this on my DSL connection and it made a world of difference. The thing is to get the modems IP address it needs to be connected directly to a PC.
We're launching today which will roll out across our network over the next week. Like before it's there to make sure that all our users get the superfast broadband speeds we promise, even at peak times. Our traffic management policy has evolved so that now any speed reduction can be for as little as one hour, if you reduce the amount you download or upload after triggering it, rather than the five hours of the old policy. We've designed it so if you're only downloading one or two big files you time spent in traffic management is much less than before.

Also with the new policy your speed is only reduced for the direction a threshold is exceeded, so if you trigger it by uploading a huge amount only your upload speed will be reduced. And you'll only see the effects if you're part of only 2. 3% of our users, the heaviest downloaders/uploaders and our new policy is designed to reduce the impact if we do sometimes traffic manage you. Customer One downloads more than the threshold for their tier of service and is traffic managed for the following 60 minutes. They notice that their speed has dropped due to traffic management and reduce what theyre doing straight away. At the end of the 60 minutes they exit traffic management and their broadband speed returns to normal. Customer Two downloads more than the threshold for their tier of service and is traffic managed for the next 60 minutes.

They carry on using their connection so heavily that their total usage triggers the 120 minute policy and a further reduction in speed. They then reduce what they are doing and 120 minutes after the second policy threshold was triggered they exit traffic management and their broadband speed returns to normal. Customer Three downloads more than the threshold for their tier of service and is traffic managed for the next 60 minutes. They carry on using their connection so heavily that they trigger the 120 minute policy and a further cut in speed. If this customer doesnt reduce what theyre doing they will carry on triggering repetitions of the 120 minute policy until their last traffic management session ends, which may be during the off-peak period. Only then will they exit traffic management and their broadband speed return to normal. For more information please go to. Also if you want to discuss the new policy can you please use.
