Slather your hands in moisturizing cream. This is the most important way to heal cracks, which are almost always a result of dry skin. Using the right moisturizing cream will seal moisture in your skin, keep it from getting so dry that it splits open. The problem is, many moisturizing creams - even those that advertise for use on extra-dry skin - aren't formulated to heal cracks and protect the hands from damage. Use a thick, greasy cream or ointment to maintain the skin's natural internal moisture while severe dry patches and cracks heal. The body's natural moisture is needed to help living cells grow from the bottom up to renew the tough, dead build-up of the outer layer which has suffered cracking, scaling, or more. The outer layer itself normally protects the lower layer, but it can't
Hot water seems to freeze faster than cold water, known as the Mpemba effect. The effect was named after the Tanzanian student who in 1963 noticed that hot ice cream mix freezes faster than a cold one. The effect was first observed by Aristotle in the 4th century BC, then later Francis Bacon and Ren Descartes. Mpemba on his findings in 1969. Theories for the Mpemba effect have included faster evaporation of hot water, therefore reducing the volume left to freeze; formation of a frost layer on cold water, insulating it; and different concentrations of solutes such as carbon dioxide, which is driven off when the water is heated. Unfortunately the effect doesn t always appear - cold water often does actually freeze faster than hot, as you would expect. But this Mpemba effect occurs
Glad to help. Believe me, I know how frustrating it is having a condition that mystifies conventional medicine. I wouldn t be surprised if they blamed it on stress. Permit me a follow up note, In addition to the tea and cherries/blueberries/cranberries, I also recommend eating yogurt (but not just any yogurt). Certain bacteria can actually be good for you. These bacteria make B vitamins, vitamin K, and substances that stop the growth of bad bacteria. There are two main groups of good bacteria: lactobacilli (lack-toe-bah-SIL-eye) and bifidobacteria (BIFF-ih-doe-bacteria). One type of bacteria in the lactobacilli group, called lactobacillus acidophilus (or just acidophilus for short) has received some fame for improving health. For example, it helps prevent yeast infections in women who
Someone dropped off kittens at our place (we have a farm). The kittensБ eyes run and the kittens sneeze constantly. Can you give me an idea what they have and how to treat it? The most likely cause for sneezing and eye discharge is a viralб. These commonly affect kittens and are usually caused by a virus: the herpes virus, the calici virus or both. They often result in sneezing, discharge from the eyes and nose, drooling, congestion, fever and poor appetite. Theб (also called the ) is the most common culprit and causes profuse sneezing and a watery or mucoid nasal discharge. Calici virus causes milder respiratory signs, however, it can cause ulcers in the mouth and on the tongue, resulting in drooling and difficulty eating. ( pinkeyeБ) in both eyes often accompanies these symptoms.
Has anyone else ever had this problem? I believe in blood donation even though nobody will ever accept my blood due to low hemoglobin counts. But I'm getting calls, and have been for months, from the American Red Cross asking for my blood. They don't call once a month or something, oh, no. They call every other day, sometimes every day. A few days ago they called and I said, "Put me on your do not call list. " Their response was "Is there someone else who might be interested? " I responded that there was no way I was going to subject anyone else to this level of harassment. They called again last night. I have called the Red Cross's other number and waded through a gazillion phone trees but there isn't one for "other questions" and no operator (dialing 0 will just get a computer voice
ItБsбafter midnight, and you wake up to your cat meowing. This scenario presents a couple of complications: 1) your catБs indicating she has needs that arenБt being met and 2) youБre losing precious sleep. What to do? Thankfully, there are a few possible solutions, but letБs first look at some reasons for cat meowing at night. Cats are known to sleep for extended periods of time but can be active when theyБre not sawing logs. If your cat vocalizes at night while youБre sleeping, consider these reasons for the behavior: can cause anxiety, which may present itself in meowing or whining, especially at night. Kitty is bored and wants you to wake up and play with her. Hunger or thirst are afoot, and your cat is sounding the alarm. An and her meows are based in confusion. ThereБs a
Ice for five to fifteen minutes at a time on the area which is most swollen and tender. "Over the counter" non-steroidal anti inflammatory medication (NSAID), such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naprosyn, or ketoprofen. Check with your pharmacist regarding possible side effects and drug interactions. Avoid activities which involve a sustained grip. Hold off on the use of grip strengthening devices or exercises involving repetitive squeezing - these put stress on the irritated tendon. If fingers bend and lock during the night and are painful to straighten in the morning, it may be helpful to wear a splint to keep them straight while sleeping. ...
If you suddenly find yourself without hot water, one of the first things to check is the water pressure. There should be a pressure gauge on the front of your boiler, although you may sometimes need to remove a panel to view this. A boiler should normally have a water pressure of between 1-1. 5 bar. If the pressure drops much below 1 bar you wonвt get any hot water. If this is the case, the first step is to repressurise the system by adding more water back in, which is usually done with a key, button or switch depending on the type of boiler. Please refer to your manufacturerвs instructions for guidance on how to do this or, if you no longer have these, contact the manufacturer directly with the make and model of your boiler. If your system keeps losing pressure, however, even after you
Hi, Our three and a half year old bitch has started sniffing inside our lounge and hallway since Christmas! It can be in different areas of each room but it is constantly. It is beginning to get frustrating for both of us! We had another dog stay the weekend and he didn't pay any attention to it, so we know there are no rodents. Please help! Carly and Ruby dog. Thanks. Reply From Pauline (Web Owner) Hello Carly and Ruby Dog! Well, I don't like to state the obvious, but dogs love to sniff - there, I said it! Seriously, sniffing is their way of exploring and communicating in our human world, but to be honest with your Carly, I'm not really sure what's going on here. What confuses my is why it's just started since Christmas? I'm assuming that you've lived where you are for a while and not
My 10 yr old indoor female is on amoxicillin for a UTI and a spray for her affected area. I started giving her wet food and mixing it with her dry food to give her some more fluids. She has finally gone pee just for a couple seconds without a lot of blood and had very soft stool slowly coming out once or twice a day. Not much, but it s the wet food so I know there s no blockage. She is bloated today, but in good spirits. Very affectionate like usual and purring. Her appetite is still normal as well. Could the bloating be from eating a new food plus the inability to go to the bathroom normal right now? ...
